New Features and Functions in NAPA 2024.2

  1. Enhanced Hull Form Design Tools
NAPA 2024.2 introduces advanced hull form transformation capabilities, including the new piecewise linear transformation method, complementing the existing linear and non-linear transformation options. This feature allows designers to make precise modifications to hull forms directly within an interactive 3D graphics environment, utilizing existing hull data to expedite the design process. Additionally, the software now supports the visualization of CFD results on hull forms using the neutral CGNS (CFD General Notation System) file format. Currently available as an alpha version, this functionality enables designers to analyze hydrodynamic performance early in the design phase, optimizing vessel efficiency and performance.
  2. Improved 3D Compartment Modeling
The release includes new tools for 3D compartment arrangements, such as the Compartment Overlap tool, which helps identify potential issues in compartment models to prevent calculation errors in later stages. Another addition, the clearance-to-hull visualization tool, assists in ensuring tanks are positioned within required clearances from the ship’s hull, enhancing safety and compliance with design standards.
  3. Streamlined Paint Area Calculations
A new painting area calculation tool has been integrated into NAPA Designer, leveraging the software’s comprehensive 3D ship model, which includes compartments, structures, and building blocks. This feature simplifies paint area calculations from the earliest design stages, improving accuracy in cost estimation and material planning.
  4. Advanced Structural Design Capabilities
NAPA 2024.2 introduces the Interactive Parametric Curve tool, enabling users to design complex structural member shapes with greater ease and flexibility. This tool ensures the reusability of 3D model data across projects, enhancing efficiency in structural design workflows and supporting the transition from initial to detailed design phases.
  5. Enhanced 3D Model Revision Management
Collaboration and design review processes are significantly improved with the introduction of a 3D-based revision management and comparison feature in NAPA Viewer. This functionality allows shipyards to reduce reliance on traditional 2D drawings, paving the way for a more efficient, drawing-less workflow. Designers can now track changes, compare revisions, and collaborate seamlessly, ensuring consistency and accuracy throughout the design process.
  6. Robust Server Database (ServerDB) Enhancements
The ServerDB, critical for multi-user and distributed design workflows, has been upgraded to be simpler and more robust, supporting smoother collaboration across geographically dispersed teams and improving data management efficiency.
