Description

🛰️ Polar Speedstack 2026 – Industry-Standard PCB Stackup Design Software :

Polar Speedstack 2026 is Polar Instruments’ professional PCB stackup software for planning, checking and documenting live multilayer builds. Fabricators, pre-layout engineers, OEM designers, signal-integrity teams and brokers use it to replace slow Excel / drawing-package workflows with one controlled stack file: materials, drills, impedance, insertion loss and production documentation.

Latest public build: Speedstack 2026 v26.07.08 (Speedstack, Speedstack PCB and Speedstack Si). Associated material libraries: v26.06.

If you search for Polar Speedstack, PCB stackup design software, controlled-impedance stackup tools or HDI / flex-rigid documentation, this is the product Polar ships for that job.

🎯 Who should buy Speedstack 2026?

  • 🏭 PCB fabricators who must turn an OEM spec into a buildable stack, swap materials and still hit thickness, impedance and loss
  • 📐 Pre-layout and CAD engineers who need a live stack before routing starts
  • 📡 SI / PI engineers who need stack geometry tied to Si8000m impedance or Si9000e insertion-loss models
  • 🛒 Procurement, brokers and front-end CAM who need a single document the whole supply chain can read

Speedstack is not a layout editor. It is the stackup design and documentation system that sits between material suppliers, field solvers, CAD/CAM and the test coupon / CITS world.

⚡ Why teams standardise on Polar Speedstack :

  • ⏱️ Polar’s own claim: stack creation can be up to 10× faster than traditional drawing + spreadsheet methods
  • 📄 One live file instead of a slide deck, a BOM spreadsheet and a separate impedance table
  • 🔗 Fewer “the fab used a different prepreg” surprises — libraries, DRC and reports stay in sync
  • 🧩 Optional HDI and flex-rigid documentation in the same environment
  • 📤 Rich export to Allegro, Xpedition, Zuken, Ucamco, IPC-2581, Gerber, DXF, CGen and CITS

✨ Speedstack 2026 highlights :

  • 🧱 Live multilayer editing in Material Library Mode or Virtual Material Mode (VMM)
  • 📶 Controlled impedance and insertion-loss structures linked to Polar field solvers
  • 📚 Online + on-premise Polar Material Partner libraries
  • 🧪 Design rule checks for isolation, copper balance, drills and impossible builds
  • 🖨️ Custom technical reports with corporate logo and copyright
  • 🧩 New 2026 Extensions platform (Polar apps + licensed third-party apps)
  • 🎨 Colour materials by type or vendor (v26.07)
  • 📐 Original Structure Values for design vs fabrication trace geometry (v26.01)
  • 📦 IPC-2581 Revision C import/export (v26.03)

🆕 New functions in Polar Speedstack 2026 :

1️⃣ Original Structure Values — v26.01

A practical fabrication feature. Each common impedance structure can store a second parameter set: W1, W2, S1, G1, G2, D1.

  • Keep the designer’s original widths and gaps in the stack
  • Record the compensated values the shop actually etches to hit target impedance
  • Print both sets on the controlled-impedance table (column order is user-defined)
  • Carry the data in new XML formats: STKX v26.00 and SSX v16.00

This is the 2026 answer to the old “layout width vs process compensation” argument that used to live in email threads.

2️⃣ Better CITS export — v26.01.02

CITS file export now handles locales that use a comma as the decimal symbol. That sounds small until a European shop’s impedance test file is rejected because 50,0 became 500.

3️⃣ IPC-2581 Rev C — v26.03

  • File → Import / Export → IPC-2581 Revision C
  • Multiple impedance structures per layer in the IPC package
  • Native SSX XML import/export with the SPEEDSTACK_IO feature
  • FlexNet Publisher / FLEXlm v11.19.9.0 supported
  • Ohmega Ticer added to the online-library supplier filter

4️⃣ Extensions + multi-structure copy/paste — v26.05

Speedstack 2026 introduces an Extensions menu — the biggest workflow change in this generation.

  • 🔷 Polar apps (included): Find and Replace; Ply Count and Isolation Distance Checker
  • 🔶 Third-party apps (SPEEDSTACK_EXT license): .NET / Python / XML processors that read SSX stack files for extra checks, reports or automated edits
  • 📋 Copy one structure or many structures from one electrical layer to another
  • 📖 Application-note links inside the Structure Copy/Paste and Structure Layer Properties dialogs
  • 📏 Technical reports can show target stack-up thickness including tolerance
  • ⌨️ Shortcuts for Polar extension apps; a red status message while an app is running
  • ⚠️ Warning if you try to run an extension against a stack stored under Program Files

Interesting fact: Polar is no longer waiting for a full yearly release to add shop-specific rules. If your process can be expressed against SSX XML, 2026 can run it as an extension.

5️⃣ Visual stack control — v26.07

  • 🎨 Material Colour Change extension — colour by material type or vendor so critical plies jump out in the graphic
  • 🕳️ Drill tables sort by column number, start/end layer (default) or creation order
  • 📉 Frequency-dependent loss graphs now print the Structure ID in the header
  • ©️ More vertical space on printouts for long OEM copyright strings
  • 📁 Most-recently-used file list no longer adds duplicate registry entries

Current listed product version after these changes: v26.07.08.

📚 2026 material library activity :

The stack editor is only as good as the laminate data behind it. Polar’s 2026 news feed is unusually busy on libraries. Additions available from Speedstack 26.07 (unless noted) include:

  • 🧪 EMC EM-371B(Z) prepregs and EM-371(Z) cores
  • 🧪 EMC EM-892K, EM-896K2 and EM-896K3
  • 🧪 Ventec VT-447 prepreg and VT-447 RGD / TC cores (1 / 2 / 5 / 10 GHz)
  • 🧪 Taiflex BHZ and BT adhesives
  • 🧪 Isola I-Tera MT40 and Isola Tachyon 100G (from 26.01)
  • 🧪 Panasonic MEGTRON7 GE / GN (from 26.01)
  • 🧪 Ohmega Ticer OhmegaPly, TCR and TRC-EHF embedded resistor foils (from 26.01)
  • 🧪 Qnity Pyralux GFL sheet adhesives (from 26.01)

Filter by supplier and measurement frequency so Dk / Df matches the band you are designing for. PolarCare customers can also run on-premise copies of the online libraries.

🧱 What Speedstack still does better than a spreadsheet :

  • 🧭 Virtual Material Mode — explore thickness, layer count and impedance before locking a real laminate
  • 🎯 Impedance goal-seek when Speedstack is linked to Si8000m
  • 📉 Frequency-dependent insertion loss, roughness models and loss graphs when linked to Si9000e
  • 🕳️ Mechanical drills, laser drills, stacked / microvias, back drills (pointed / flat / router) and capped drills
  • 🛡️ Shield materials, mesh / crosshatch planes, sequential / HDI press-cycle documentation
  • 📏 Finished thickness, isolation distance, copper coverage and plating-aware colouring
  • 🔁 Re-allocate structures after you add, remove or retarget electrical layers
  • 🧾 Customisable technical report: stack graphic, BOM, drills, impedance table, loss plots

📤 Import / export and CAD-CAM links :

Typical Speedstack exchanges (license options apply):

  • 📥 Import: IPC-2581 Rev B/C, Ucamco job / Integr8tor / UCAM (.ssx), XML, Zuken CR-8000
  • 📤 Export: IPC-2581, SSX / STKX XML, CSV, JPEG / BMP / TIFF, Gerber, DXF, CGen coupon data, CITS test files
  • 🔗 CAD/CAM: Cadence Allegro, Siemens EDA / Mentor Xpedition, Zuken CR-8000, Zuken DFM Center, Ucamco Integr8tor and UCAM

🛠️ Stability and documented fixes in the 2026 version :

Polar does not publish a consumer-style changelog of every crash. The official 2025–2026 notes that matter to production users are:

  • ✅ CITS export fixed for comma-decimal locales
  • ✅ Clearer DRC text — “stack is impossible to build” is now explained (for example isolation distance = 0)
  • ✅ Better guidance when adding structures on external dielectrics or after the stack has changed
  • ✅ Stronger recovery if Speedstack.exe.config is missing or corrupt
  • ✅ Drill error handler and messages improved; exception when adding a drill to a prepreg-only stack addressed in the 2025 base that 2026 inherits
  • ✅ Structure-view graphics for coplanar-without-ground and hatched offset stripline
  • ✅ Solder-mask-to-solder-mask dimension line no longer draws nonsense on single-mask or multi-page stacks
  • ✅ Toolbar / mini-stack / air-gap edge cases when the first structure is added
  • ✅ Print layout room for long copyright strings and Structure IDs on loss graphs

When you upgrade Speedstack PCB or Speedstack Si, reinstall the matching Si8000m 2026 or Si9000e 2026 build. Polar calculation-engine licenses are version-gated. Licenses from before 2018 generally will not run the 2026 line (see Polar AP625).

💻 System requirements (Polar AP605) :

🖥️ Operating system Windows 10 or Windows 11, 32-bit or 64-bit
⚙️ Processor 2 GHz Pentium-class minimum; Intel Core i7 or equivalent recommended
🧠 Memory 8 GB RAM minimum; 16 GB or more recommended
💾 Disk 500 GB recommended on a working engineering PC
🖼️ Display 1920×1080 effective resolution; two FHD monitors recommended for Speedstack
🔍 High-DPI Configure scaling per Polar AP626
📦 Framework Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 (Speedstack moved here from 2024 for corporate IT policy)
🔑 Licensing FlexNet node-locked (MAC or USB / software key) or floating FlexNet server license

Floating-license shops should keep the FlexNet Publisher server at v11.19.x or newer when clients move to 2026. Config files live under %AppData%\Roaming\Polar\Speedstack — copy them if you migrate PCs (Polar AP616).

📦 Which Speedstack 2026 package do you need?

  • 📘 Speedstack 2026 — stackup design and documentation only
  • 📗 Speedstack PCB 2026 — Speedstack + Si8000m controlled-impedance field solver (v26.07.08 + Si8000m v26.03.01 on Polar’s latest-versions list)
  • 📕 Speedstack Si 2026 — Speedstack + Si9000e insertion-loss / transmission-line field solver
  • 🧩 Optional: HDI, Flex-rigid, SPEEDSTACK_IO and SPEEDSTACK_EXT depending on the PolarCare license

Pair with CGen 2026 if you generate impedance / loss coupons, and with CITS if the fab measures the finished board on Polar test systems.

💡 Interesting facts buyers usually miss :

  • 🧲 Two widths, one structure. Original Structure Values exists because shops etch to a different width than the CAD drawing. Speedstack 2026 finally stores both without a side spreadsheet.
  • 🧪 Libraries are a product. Polar added multiple 2026 laminate families after the 26.07 editor shipped. Keeping the app current is often about materials, not just UI.
  • 🖥️ Polar still wants two screens. Stack graphic + materials grid + impedance table is the intended layout. A 14-inch laptop is survival mode, not the design centre.
  • 🔌 .NET 4.8 was an IT request. From 2024 Polar moved the desktop app off older frameworks so corporate image policies would stop blocking upgrades.
  • 🧰 Extensions turn SSX into an API. Find/replace and ply-count checks shipped first. Third parties can add shop rules without waiting for Polar’s next numbered release.
  • 📏 Back-drill language got more honest in the mid-2020s. Pointed, flat, router and capped drills are first-class properties, not notes in a PDF margin.

❓ Speedstack 2026 FAQ :

Is Speedstack 2026 a new product or an upgrade?
It is the 2026 annual line of the same Polar stackup platform. You need a license year that Polar will activate on 2026 binaries.

Can I open older .sci / .stk files?
Yes in normal upgrade practice, but new STKX / SSX schema versions add fields (Original Structure Values, newer drill types). Confirm with PolarCare before a site-wide cutover.

Does the base license include Si8000m or Si9000e?
No. Those solvers come in the Speedstack PCB and Speedstack Si bundles, or as separate Polar products linked from Speedstack.

Is there a macOS or Linux build?
No. Official Speedstack is a Windows desktop application with FlexNet licensing.

Where do evaluation installers come from?
PolarCare / your Polar representative — not a public app store. Language packs are also PolarCare items (AP600).

🚀 Get Speedstack 2026 into production

Order or evaluate Polar Speedstack 2026, Speedstack PCB 2026 or Speedstack Si 2026 through PolarCare. Before you upgrade, check the vendor string in your existing license file and read Polar AP625 / AP618. Matching field-solver versions, FlexNet server versions and material libraries matter as much as the editor build number.

One live stack. Real materials. Impedance and loss that the fab can actually build. That is what Polar Speedstack 2026 is for.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Speedstack 2026 — the stack file our fab and OEMs actually share

We run Speedstack PCB on every impedance-controlled and HDI job. The 2026 release is not a cosmetic refresh: Original Structure Values finally stores design width and compensated width in the same structure, IPC-2581 Rev C import/export is usable, and the Extensions menu (find/replace, ply/isolation check, colour-by-vendor) cuts the late-night spreadsheet work. Material libraries stay current enough that we stop guessing Dk/Df. Still a desktop Windows app with FlexNet licensing — upgrade planning matters — but once it is on the bench, stack creation, DRC and the printed build document are faster and cleaner than any CAD note or Excel stack we used before. For a production stackup tool, this is the standard.
