Description
MATHCAD PRIME 10.0.1.0: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
What is Mathcad Prime 10.0.1.0?
Mathcad Prime 10.0.1.0 is the first-ever maintenance release of Mathcad Prime, designed to enhance the stability and security of the software. This version focuses on improving the overall user experience by addressing known bugs and vulnerabilities. It is highly recommended that Mathcad Prime 10 users update to this release to ensure they are working with the most reliable version.
What is a maintenance release?
A maintenance release is a software update that primarily addresses bugs and provides necessary security patches. These releases do not introduce new features but are crucial for ensuring the software remains robust and secure.
Mathcad Prime 10.0.1.0 is fully compatible with the original Mathcad Prime 10.0.0.0 version. This means that worksheets created in either version can be opened, edited, and saved seamlessly across both versions. When you install Mathcad Prime 10.0.1.0 it will replace the 10.0.0.0 version on your system, but because both versions are fully forward- and backward-compatible, you don’t need to worry about compatibility issues.
Starting with Mathcad Prime 10, the Mathcad development team is aiming for one major release and one maintenance release each year. The maintenance release will come out roughly six months after the main release, ensuring that the software remains up-to-date and secure in-between major updates.
How do I install Mathcad Prime 10.0.1.0?
If you’re an active Mathcad customer, installing this maintenance release is simple:
- Log into PTC eSupport using your credentials
- Head to the Mathcad Prime Software Download page
- Expand the section for Release Prime 10.0 and select Version 10-.0-.1-.0
It’s important to note that Mathcad Prime 10.0.1.0 will replace Mathcad Prime 10.0.0.0 on your machine. You cannot have both versions installed simultaneously, but you don’t need to worry about any loss of functionality or compatibility. Any worksheets created in one version can be opened, edited, and saved in the other.
What’s new in Mathcad Prime 10.0.1.0?
This maintenance release is primarily focused on fixing issues present in the initial release of Mathcad Prime 10. To see a list of customer-reported fixes that have documented SPRs, use the PTC Update Advisor tool on the eSupport portal. Simply enter “Mathcad Prime 10” with the date code 10.0.0.0 as your current version and 10.0.1.0 as your target version to generate a list of updates and fixes. This public list is in addition to fixes discovered and resolved internally by PTC R&D.
While Mathcad Prime 10.0.1.0 is designed to keep your current version running smoothly, there’s even more to look forward to in the future. What’s new in PTC Mathcad Prime 10
PTC Mathcad Prime 10 introduces several updates to application-level functionality, including important features requested by users.
- Enhanced controls allow users to enrich their worksheets with a variety of interactive elements such as list boxes, radio buttons, checkboxes, buttons, sliders, and text boxes. These tools enable users to meticulously specify the functionality of each control within the worksheet. This capability offers a customizable and thorough method for adjusting variable values, utilizing scripting languages like VBScript and JScript.
- Mathcad Prime 10 introduces the option to select solving algorithms for functions and definite integrals. The enhanced functions include pdesolve, odesolve, numol, genfit, polyroots, find, minimize, maximize, minerr, along with algorithms designed for calculating definite integrals. This feature grants users increased flexibility and control over their computational outcomes.
- The latest update allows for the application of subscript and superscript formatting within text regions, facilitating the documentation of variable identifiers or parameters that require exponents. This enhancement improves the clarity and precision of documentation, making it easier to convey complex mathematical concepts.
Symbolic Engine Enhancements
- Expanded use of the keyword fully: Mathcad Prime 10 has expanded the use of the keyword fully with additional use cases. We also added support for the modifiers fact and max for this keyword.
- New standard keyword: We have added a new keyword, standard, which allows for Big-O notation with series expansion, as well as showing the constant of integration in indefinite integrals.
- Improved support for undefined: We have improved support for undefined results in the symbolic engine, providing greater compatibility and equivalency with the numeric engine’s NaN, allowing for symbolic support of the NaN class of functions.
- General keyword improvements: There are general improvements for the keywords rewrite, solve, and simplify. Rewrite is expanded with five new modifiers, arg, atan2, fact, sign, and Φ, to allow rewriting expressions in their respective terms. solve and simplify have many additional supported use cases.
- Improved performance of calculus operators
Numeric Engine Enhancements
- Partial Differential Equation (PDE) solving with pdesolve now supports setting mixed boundary conditions, implicit and explicit boundary conditions, and units intelligence within PDE systems.
- The numeric engine has improved behavior of inline assignment evaluation and handling unitless zero in a matrix.
- Multithreading improvements: Improvements to multithreading give you the full power of its functionality. These improvements can increase the efficiency of worksheet calculations, specifically those with independent calculable regions.
Mathcad Prime 10 introduces several noteworthy usability updates to enhance the user experience.
- You can now seamlessly open worksheets directly from an included worksheet, streamlining the workflow and improving accessibility.
- You can now directly open files from the legacy Mathcad worksheet converter.
- The software now supports both world date and system date formats in headers and footers, accommodating your date format preferences.
- You can now link to a specific section in another worksheet.
- You can now hide the borders on collapsible areas to enhance the aesthetic of your documents, especially during printing.
